Team GFA Profile: Elaine
It was the first time that Elaine specifically felt that she was being called by God. As a mother and grandmother who has been actively serving in the church for many years, she felt compelled to action after reading No Longer a Slumdog and Revolution in World Missions. “And it has just kept going from there!”
“I believe this is a call from God. My heart has always been tender towards the poor, downtrodden and hurting people.”
Elaine first heard about Gospel for Asia while attending a Gospel Music Celebration in Red Deer. Soon, she felt led to sponsor a Bridge of Hope child. Since then, she’s become an area representative for GFA. She looks for opportunities to tell people about GFA, helps with booths at conferences, gives out free books, and organizes fund-raising events.
“Public speaking is a challenge for me, but God has given me the opportunity and the desire to tell others about GFA to individuals and to groups. I can’t believe I’m offering to do this!! God provides abundantly what we lack in ourselves … I enjoy having great conversations with the pastors I meet through this work.”
Knowing the great need for the gospel and having to rely on God for the work, Elaine’s prayer time has expanded and been enriched in many ways. Also, knowing that the GFA home team staff is constantly praying for her has been a great encouragement as well. “It’s awesome that GFA head office is praying for me too. I have never experienced that before.”
