Welcoming the class of January 2014
Three weeks ago, we welcomed the January 2014 School of Discipleship students Velm, Lisa and Lisa. (We’re still working out the naming convention.) We’ve been very happy to have the new 2014 SD students who have fit in together like family. In fact, two of the students are siblings! Can you guess which ones?
When the students first arrived they were told that the year would go by quickly. They didn’t all believe that at first, but they’ve recently been heard saying, “After this week, we’ll have finished one-eleventh of our time here!” They were launched headlong into their schedules complete with orientation, classes, ministry placements, prayer meetings, plenty of homework, and evangelism training. Of course, this wasn’t done just to keep them busy and pass the time, but each of these activities are opportunities to teach something about what it means to follow Jesus in faith.
It hasn’t been all work and no play, though! The students have done a complete round of dinners with the GFA families, taken a trip to see Niagara Falls, had a games day including floor hockey and volleyball with some of the staff, and played a stimulating game of Dictionary.
This is the body of Christ, striving forward, and I’m excited for this year. God’s going to do amazing things; he already has. I’m just blessed to be here and to serve Christ. – Velm
I have seen nothing by mercy love and grace. I’ve never seen such humility before. It’s truly a family away from my family. It’s truly evidence of God’s grace that has been dwelling in this group. – Lisa N.
When I came here, everybody just fit together. We just walked in and, “here we are”, it’s home. We have a oneness in unity in our hearts through our Father. I’ve already learned so much from being with people. This is discipleship, the real deal. – Lisa T.
The students have been settling into their new homes, schedules, and roles fairly well, please continue to pray for them. Although it’s already been one-eleventh of their time here already, they still have much to learn, do, and grow. Please also pray for their house mentors and SD coordinators as they lead these three, and the rest of the GFA staff as they model their faith through relationship as well.
