Serving in the local community
Last month, the School of Discipleship volunteered at a community outreach ministry. We got to help the staff prepare and serve dinner to the guests from the community. It was a lot of fun to make enormous pans of shepherd’s pie, and it was also very interesting to be able to work and talk with the staff because they came from all different kinds of professions and backgrounds.
Things became a little hectic as dinner time drew nearer because we were short-handed! Other staff and even some of the dinner guests themselves rolled up their sleeves and helped out, showing the true sense of community.
The most memorable part of the evening was not making or even serving the meal, but the opportunity to talk with guests during and after dinner. Everyone was very friendly and were happy to share stories and some wisdom with the School of Discipleship students. Some students even had the opportunity to share the gospel. The evening was a very good reminder that while Gospel for Asia serves the mission field in Asia, there is also a mission field right here in Canada.
